New Equipment (a) MODEM Units For TTVF 4/12 Ch
   

The Modem units have still not arrived from Ordnance. (See last report)

     
    (b) Airconditioners for SR D11/R234 Airportable Containers
   

The installation kits for the ACU 52 have not been available from Ordnance sources. Authority has been received for the purchase of components to enable the kits to be manufactured locally. (See last report)

     
    (c) Sioux Helicopters
   

With the implementation of the Light Aircraft Troop in August 1966 the Squadron received three Sioux Helicopters with associated stores and equipment. Lifting trials are being carried out and progress reports on suitability of the aircraft for the Squadron role are sent to HQ FARELF regularly.

     
    (d) C11/R210
   

The Squadron has recently filled its scale of C11/R210 with the arrival of the sets for Light Aircraft Troop, Air Support Troop and HF Troop.

     
    (e) C11(SSB)/R210(M)
   

Air Support Troop have recently completed user trials with this equipment. The Squadron has had two sets on temporary loan from MEL Equipment Ltd for the period of the trials. A full report on the trials has been forwarded to HQ FARELF.

     
    (f) SUR 30 and 31
   

The Squadron has recently received SUR 30 (for C11) and SUR 31 (for C15) equipments. These will allow the respective sets to work direct from 250v mains supply.

     
    (g) 80' Sloping Vee Antenna Equipment
   

HF Troop have received four of these equipment in accordance with LARKSPUR instructions. The antenna was used on Exercise FINO with satisfactory results.

     
    (h) Cages Screening Test Transportability
    TM Troop have recently received the screened cage for use in the Workshop.
     
    (k) Vehicles
   

(1) Line Vehicles: Two x 3/4 ton Landrovers GS have been fitted with 1/4 ton Landrover cable installation kit, modified to fit the 3/4 ton vehicle.

   

(2) 1 Ton vehicles: All 1 ton GS vehicles have been replaced by 3/4 ton Landrovers. 1 ton radio vehicles are to be replaced by airportable containers as soon as the air conditioning units have been installed. The containers will travel on their own wheels for short distances and on the back of 3 ton vehicles (to be issued) when longer distances are involved. 1 ton Signal Office vehicles are eventually to be replaced by 3/4 ton Signal office trailers.

   

(3) 3/4 ton Landrovers: The weight problem over the RR relay vehicle (33 x C41/R222) is still not solved. The possibility of providing 2 vehicles to each relay station is still under consideration by higher authority.

     
    (l) Tropospheric Scatter Equipment
   

RR Troop are shortly to carry out FARELF trials on an American tropospheric scatter equipment (AN/MRC 91) due to arrive from Cyprus in June 1967.

     
    (m) Lightweight Shelters
   

The Squadron has been unable to obtain lightweight shelters for Comcen use. Approval has been given to manufacture shelters locally on standard shelter design. Issue of lightweight tables and chairs is also awaited.

646 Signal Troop (Force rear link to COMCAN) is to come under the command of the Squadron from June 1967
